Metallica Celebrates a Successful Streaming Year

Metallica has released its Spotify Wrapped for 2023, and it’s been a successful year for the band indeed. As the band reports, fans spent 164.5 million hours streaming Metallica’s music on Spotify in the past twelve months. In a post on Instagram, the band expressed its gratitude:

“This year, you guys listened to a lot more than just 72 Seasons…in fact, you listened to well over 72,000 seasons worth of our music. 164.5 million hours of Metallica were streamed on @spotify in 2023, 20% more than last year, and 924,000 of you had us as your top artist! Massive thanks to all of the #MetallicaFamily who made this another unforgettable year. We’ll see ya back on the road in 2024 when the #M72 World Tour picks up again in Munich.”https://www.instagram.com/p/C1fBszgusim/embed/captioned/?cr=1&v=14&wp=540&rd=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ultimate-guitar.com&rp=%2Fnews%2Fgeneral_music_news%2Fyou_listened_to_well_over_72000_seasons_worth_of_our_music_metallica_celebrates_a_successful_streaming_year.html#%7B%22ci%22%3A0%2C%22os%22%3A2159.5%7D

Metallica bassist Rob Trujillo recently spoke about the band’s latest effort, “72 Seasons,” picking a song he’d “take to a desert island.” The bassist picked the 11-minute doom-laden closer “Inamorata,” which also featured his first foray into singing backing vocals. Speaking about the song, he said:

“‘Inamorata’ is an amazing song and we all feel it has classic potential, but I’m gonna have to go with ‘You Must Burn!.’ That’s the first official semi-solo vocal moment for me in Metallica. Greg [Fidelman, producer] and James [Hetfield, frontman] gave me the freedom to present my vocal moment, where I was just trying to channel Ozzy – you may or may not hear that! I do really like that middle section, it feels like a very complete song and has the right power groove. That’s my desert island jam.”
