The Group John Lennon Called ‘True Sons Of The Beatles,’ According to Steve Hackett

In a recent interview with Goldmine Magazine, Steve Hackett revealed that John Lennon, one of the Beatles, once referred to a group as the “true sons of The Beatles.” Hackett spent a lot of time in the interview discussing his solo projects, his time with Genesis, and some memories from his musical past. The guitarist recalls something Lennon said when asked when his next album will be released: If everything goes perfectly, and as John Lennon once said, everything falls into place and works at the speed of light, then probably around February of next year. He revealed himself to be a huge Genesis fan, and it was amazing to hear him refer to us as true Beatles offspring. The review is the greatest I’ve ever received. In 2022, Hackett asserted once more that Lennon mentioned Genesis and Electric Light Orchestra (ELO) as the two groups he believed to be The Beatles’ “true sons” in a radio interview.

In addition, he disclosed that Lennon owned a collection of Genesis albums dating back to their album “Nursery Cryme.” In prior conversations, Hackett has been candid about the Beatles’ influence on Genesis. In 2019, the guitarist admitted to Guitar Player that the band’s 1967 album “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band” had a significant impact on the album era and British psychedelia. This, according to him, was the context in which Genesis was created. Hackett goes on tour to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Genesis’ “Foxtrot,” performing the entire album, including songs that had previously been rarely performed live. A recent recording called “Foxtrot at Fifty – Live in Brighton” captures this celebration. This collection, which is available in a variety of formats, features vocalist Nad Sylvan, keyboardist Roger King, drummer Craig Blundell, bassist Jonas Reingold, and woodwind player Rob Townsend.
